THE BLOGGIN' BLOGGER As a research scientist, inventor, engineer, tinkerer, hobbyist, tradesman, sometime artist, once upon a time athlete, coach, father, husband, shade-tree mechanic, dishwasher, not-so-good musician, dad, craftsman of several ilks, short-order chef, occasional volunteer, fulltime pet owner, all-around curmudgeon, and one who does not mind a little stercoraceous matter sticking to the bottom of his shoes (and hopefully not on my face!), I wanted to add "blogger" to my repertoire of limited skills. Perhaps a blogging page is considered too trendy or chic for someone who wears running shoes with a coat and tie when out to dinner, or sleeps naked because Paul Harvey says it's healthier to do so. I was raised on the "Gold Coast" of Fairfield County in Westport, Connecticut, before it became a suburb of New York City, and have lived in West Philly, downtown Atlanta, the coal fields of West Virginia, and now in the hills of southern New England in Northern Connecticut. I have spent many summers in the moonshine hills and cockfighting counties of East Tennessee visiting inlaws (outlaws?), I've seen every US state except Alaska, and visited about 35 countries in Europe, Africa, Scandinavia and the Near East. Perhaps the blogger will provide something slightly more than a provincial outlook from cyberspace. Then again, perhaps someone who is so politically incorrect can teach the web how to "unlax" by partaking of my blog. This website is meant to provide the casual or serious web surfer a different perspective on the lives around us and the world in which we live. An inventor is one who comes up with practical devices and useful gizmos that people need to help them in their everyday lives, making those lives easier. The inventor therefore views the world as many intellectual quandaries where his experience, expertise, and mechanical aptitude are constantly challenged. So with an inquisitive, curious mind, why wouldn't other aspects of everyday life, which do not have a mechanical or gizmo solution, be as intriguing? Some may just say I am opinionated... too opinionated. But with all my opinions, I am more than happy to share them! And there will always be a solution to whatever problem is being discussed (i.e., resolved!). I plan to bring these opinions to the web periodically in a time frame yet to be determined. I started out in third or fourth grade wanting to be an engineer... an engineer because I always wanted to drive a train. Also, having a natural mechanical aptitude, I enjoyed fixing things so I could figure out how they worked. Therefore the notion of becoming and being an engineer just seemed to be a part of me. I have always considered myself a very good engineer. Good because (1) I am very lazy and (2) I am a skinflint (cheapskate, tightwad, niggard, miser, etc.). Lazy because when I design something or fix it, I never want to have to go back again to work on it. And skinflint because I only want to spend money on it one time and I do not want to have to spend another penny. So the combination works well. When I design something, I strive to make the quality excellent so the device will last a long time; I never want or have to go back again to visit my previous work. And the price had better be reasonable; otherwise I will look for alternatives, beg or hound for price breaks, and do what it takes to save a few bucks to make the device affordable. Whatever your reason is for visiting our blog sheet, thank you. Please read and enjoy. Unfortunately, as an engineer, I am still looking for that train to drive!
